Our top 10 favorite finds from Salone del Mobile 2024 furniture fair in Milan, Italy.

Updated: Apr 24

Welcome to a showcase of our top picks from the 2024 furniture fair in Milan! Join us as we explore the latest innovations and the exquisite designs that caught our eye at this year's prestigious interior design trade show: 1. Superwire Table Lamp. Designed by Formafantasma for Flos.

"SuperWire is a modular lighting system based on a LED light source designed for repair.

The product line includes a floor lamp, sconces, a table lamp and various suspension configurations. These pieces are all composed of hexagonal modules of flat glass panels, an aluminum framework and twelve slender LED strips, each shielded by a borosilicate tube the size of a spaghetti.

The design allows users to easily mount and unmount the glass panels, facilitating the substitution of components. The lighting sources have also been engineered to facilitate repair.

For the first time, a LED source which is not reliant on a standard light bulb is easily replaceable without the need of shipping back the full lamp to the manufacturer.

SuperWire reengineers the standard filament used in LED bulbs to obtain a homogeneous and warm light in an atypical length."

4. BUN lounge chair. Designed by Dmitry Kozinenko for Woo Furniture.

"What would an armchair look like if you could make furniture out of dough, like ravioli, homemade pasta, or croissants?

Designer Dmitry Kozinenko created the BUN lounge chair getting inspiration from a cooking TV show. The puffy rounded shapes of the model resemble an appetizing bun from the show window of your favorite pastry shop.

The armchair follows the playful aesthetics of the brand and fits well with other Woo models. BUN looks completely different in different colors and upholstery, providing maximum freedom in creating a unique atmosphere in your interior."

5. Le Mura sofa in Gucci's signature Rossa Ancora Red. Designed by Mario Bellini for Tacchini.

"Having recently redone part of Gucci’s Milan flagship store entirely in a deep oxblood red, the brand’s creative director, Sabato De Sarno, partnered with five Italian design companies to reimagine some of their classic pieces in the house’s new signature color, Ancora Rosso."

"The project Le Mura by Mario Bellini represents the manifesto of a radical design that went through all the Italian 70s: design was as an answer to questions not only of aesthetics, proportions or ergonomics, but also of social content. The result is a project of inexhaustible strength, that does not wear out after fifty years. The theme of modularity is central, and is already expressed by the name chosen for this sofa system: just as the large boulders that made up the imposing Roman walls, the seating elements come together in the design in a theoretically infinite process. This way, the sofa lends itself to small but also very large environments, without ever losing its stylistic aspect. Tacchini rediscovers this precious project and reissues it, respecting the original design by highlighting the vocation to comfort."

6. Isola islands. Designed by Officine Gullo.

"Officine Gullo cooking islands are signature elements that can completely redefine an environment: “unique pieces” around which the entire kitchen revolves. Characterized by Officine Gullo’s iconic aesthetics and high performance, each island is designed to be the core around which family and friends can gather in their daily activities.

Accurate and powerful design elements combine the harmony of shapes with the most modern cooking technologies: like luxury super-cars, elegant and practical, Officine Gullo islands are equipped with an “engine” that offers extraordinary performance and refined design.

Like all Officine Gullo products, the islands can be equipped with the cooking elements selected by the clients, based on their preferred culinary habits. Alongside the burners or induction cook top, clients can add many powerful cooking accessories: pasta cookers, steamers, lava stone barbecues, mirror-finished fry-tops, and much more. One area of the top can be left free from cooking elements to be dedicated to the preparation and consumption of dishes.

Based on its size, the island can be complemented by the washing area or a small-size sink to be placed alongside the cooking accessories.

Finally, the space below provides an important and useful additional pantry volume, as well as housing appliances such as an oven and dishwasher."

8. Match ping pong table. Designed by Martinelli Venezia for Fenix.

"Match, a table designed by Martinelli Venezia, interprets the concept of the double through colour, functionality and irony. Its round shape and cylindrical base recall a classic dining table, whereas the central folding of the top transforms the object into a ping-pong table. This conveys the idea that diners may challenge each other to a game soon after a meal.

“When we were involved in the project - say Carolina Martinelli and Vittorio Venezia - our goal was to offer a new vision of this multi-feature material, and the theme of the curve seemed to us an interesting point of view. The two alternated colours we used to highlight the concept of duality, which is disclosed in the object in a game of dynamic contrasts: function/dysfunction, conviviality/rivalry and formal/informal.”

Match thus recalls both the idea of play and challenge, as well as the combination of colours and materials. The tabletop, together with the base and the rackets, alternate two different FENIX® colours - Bianco Malé and Rosso Namib. At the same time, the construction process of the object suggests different ways to combine FENIX® with materials such as wood and metal. The ping-pong 'net' was, in fact, created by making use of the characteristics of a multifaceted material such as FENIX®, which can be bended to create soft shapes."

With a sleek glass sphere at its core, it allows seamless multidimensional movement of the lampshade, offering both static and dynamic lighting options. Its user-friendly design, featuring geometrical shapes and easy assembly, places emphasis on human interaction with light."
